CAYUGA HEALTH - CORTLAND CANCER CENTER

The 1081 Commons clinic renovation in Cortland, New York, transformed an existing medical office space into a satellite Cancer Care Infusion Center for Cayuga Medical Center. This project was designed to bring high-quality oncology services closer to patients in the region, reducing travel time while maintaining the same level of care and comfort as the main campus. The renovation reimagined the existing space to support both patient treatment and staff workflow, incorporating dedicated infusion bays with privacy and daylight access, upgraded mechanical and electrical systems, and specialized clinical support areas. Every element of the layout was planned to promote efficiency, safety, and compassion in care delivery.

Guided by WELL Building principles, the design emphasizes health, comfort, and emotional well-being. Ample natural light, views to nature, and biophilic materials create a warm and calming environment that supports healing and reduces stress during treatment. Enhanced air and water quality systems, acoustic controls, and ergonomic furnishings contribute to a healthier experience for both patients and caregivers. The color palette and finishes were selected for their restorative qualities, using natural tones and textures to evoke tranquility and connection to the outdoors. The result is a holistic, patient-centered environment that reflects Cayuga Medical Center’s dedication to wellness, sustainability, and community-focused care.
