PAUL SMITH’S COLLEGE

Renovations to the Saunders Sports Complex at Paul Smith’s College have transformed the 50,000 SF facility into a modern, vibrant hub for recreation, athletics, and wellness on campus. The project introduced a striking new exterior entrance that enhances visibility and accessibility while creating a welcoming gateway for students, faculty, and visitors. Upgrades to the building façade modernized the complex’s appearance, incorporating durable, energy-efficient materials that reflect the natural beauty of the Adirondack setting and align with the college’s strong commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Over the years, the college has invested in numerous upgrades throughout the facility, including the installation of a modern strength and conditioning center, new climbing wall areas, pool finish and mechanical system improvements, locker room renovations, gym floor refinishing, and updates to administrative and training spaces. These renovations have modernized the complex while maintaining its connection to Paul Smith’s outdoor and experiential learning culture. In addition, planning efforts have extended beyond the building itself, with future master plans envisioning an artificial turf field, stadium, and site enhancements for the nearby Instructional Science Building—all supporting the college’s mission to promote active learning, sustainability, and a strong sense of community.
