LAFARGEVILLE CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT

LaFargeville Central School District’s new gymnasium project in Orleans, New York, represents a major investment in the school’s future, combining sustainability, functionality, and community pride. Designed and constructed to achieve LEED Certification, the project emphasized energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and environmentally responsible design. High-performance building systems, LED lighting, green roof over the locker area and efficient HVAC controls reduce long-term operating costs while enhancing comfort for students and staff. The new gymnasium provides a modern athletic venue that supports both school programs and community events, featuring low-emitting durable finishes and ample spectator seating. Natural daylighting and energy-efficient materials reflect the district’s commitment to environmental stewardship and long-term sustainability along with a 10k solar panel array and on-site wind turbine.

In addition to the new gym, the project included an overbuild expansion that introduced new classrooms, a dedicated weight training gym, and essential program space to meet the district’s growing educational needs. The former gymnasium was repurposed into a full-featured auditorium, creating a dynamic performing arts venue for assemblies, concerts, and community events. Together, these improvements not only elevate the district’s athletic and academic offerings but also demonstrate how sustainable design and smart planning can transform an existing school into a modern, efficient, and inspiring learning environment.
